"Since 2024, the joyful sounds of Zimbabwean marimbas have filled the Errington Hall. Seniors are invited come together again this spring to learn marimba songs at the beginner or experienced level. You'll play as a group and there's no requirement to read music as the songs are taught through the oral tradition. Your instructor is Ted Wright, who has been playing and teaching since the '90s. Local multi-instrumentalist Jill Russell is Ted's assistant. The hand built bass, baritone, tenor, and soprano marimbas are provided.
Ten one-hour weekly classes start on April 23 with the beginners group at 2:00 pm and experienced players at 3:30 pm. Consider registering early as each group is capped at ten participants.
The marimba program is subsidized by a New Horizons for Seniors Grant.
