Hi Neighbour Day is a beloved annual tradition in the small, eclectic community of Errington, BC, typically held over a weekend in mid-August. First launched in 1969 to raise funds for the upkeep of the historic Errington War Memorial Hall, it has grown into a vibrant two-day festival that captures the town’s quirky, grassroots spirit.
The weekend usually kicks off with an evening of live music and local food at the Community Stage, but the main festivities happen on Saturday. Highlights include:
Pancake Breakfast: A community staple held in the outdoor pavilion, often featuring locally sourced sausages.
The Parade: Described as "small but cute," this parade features local residents, kids, and handmade floats winding through the heart of the village.
Zucchini Races: Perhaps the most famous event, where participants "race" hollowed-out, wheeled zucchinis down a steep ramp. It’s as chaotic and fun as it sounds!
Farmers' Market & Free Corn: The regular Saturday market expands for the day, often featuring free corn on the cob donated by local farms (like Silver Meadows) and plenty of kid-friendly activities like face painting.
It’s a true "old-fashioned" community day that brings together locals and visitors for music, crafts, and a celebration of rural life.
